I am an artist who investigates the archives of declassified government documents to create paintings, videos, and installations. Government documents, available to the public, reveal abstracted forms of reality through heavy redaction and censorship. However, they are the closest thing to the truth that average citizens have access to. These documents depict the stories of contemporary myths such as black ops, riots, conspiracies and so on. Based on my reading of these documents, I generate my interpretation in visual forms. My interest in the world of government documents began because of my experience as a classified document translator many years ago.
In addition to constructing visual stories from the archives of declassified documents, I am interested in updating traditional images and objects by injecting contemporary anime aesthetics into them. Through this process, I am interested in redefining traditional objects and practices as well as questioning the Western hegemony in contemporary art. I am particularly passionate about rebooting the formal transformation of traditional Buddhist sculptures.
